OData Across Boundaries

OData Across Boundaries

When: Thursday October 6th, 2011, 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Where: Microsoft Office - Columbus (Address Below)

Summary
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
So many of our applications across platforms are data driven, right? Data is the crux of what our applications present and that's what we focus on in this session. How can you handle data sensibly and provide flexibility for connected systems through OData? In this talk, we slice and dice OData and discuss why you should care. We take a deep-dive into how almost any data source can be exposed as an OData service and then how you can consume them using specific client libraries. We also take a close look at why OData is important for cross-platform Mobile/Web/(Windows8 perhaps) applications and when leveraging the cloud. Attendees should walk away with a solid understanding of OData and quick-know-hows on how to get started!

First Look: Windows Azure AppFabric Applications

First Look: Windows Azure AppFabric Applications

When: Thursday August 4th, 2011, 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Where: Microsoft Office - Columbus (Address Below)

While Windows Azure is considered a Platform-as-a-Service offering in the cloud computing space, there are still several aspects of the underlying infrastructure you must be aware of and configure when planning for and developing your Windows Azure applications. The current CTP of the new Windows Azure AppFabric Applications looks to raise the abstraction level and provide a true Platform-as-a-Service. This capability enables you to write an application composed of multiple services from various providers while allowing you to deploy, manage, and scale the application as a single logical application. All of this and a visual model of the application that stays in sync with the code! In this session we’ll take a look at the scenarios and problems Windows Azure AppFabric Applications are looking to solve, the features available in the current CTP, and how to develop and deploy a Windows Azure AppFabric Application.

Over the next year, MOCSDUG will bring you several talks to get you better acquainted with the AppFabric platform. In this presentation from the AppFabric series, Monish discusses the benefits of model-driven design such as reuse, transparency of design for multiple audiences and the simplification of low-level patterns. These benefits assist in realizing application designs that are easier to implement, manage and understand. Learn some of the problems WF 4 solves and how simple it is to build a Workflow Service with Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) 4.0.

Thursday 12/2/2010: MOCSDUG Update

Due to the holiday schedule and scheduling conflicts with some of our speakers, we will not have a MOCSDUG meeting this Thursday 12/2.

However, I would like to take this opportunity to catch everyone up on all the exciting updates within the Microsoft Connected Systems stack. In October, Microsoft released BizTalk Server 2010 with several new features such as a new and improved mapper, introduction of a few BizTalk features into WF workflows, a revamped EDI Trading Partner Management (TPM) model, and a new FTPS adapter. On the cloud front, you need to check out all the exciting new features within Azure AppFabric such as Message Buffer, AppFabric Services and the updates to Service Bus. Moreover, Microsoft recognizes that integration will play a large role as customers start moving their applications to the cloud. As a result, a big part of Microsoft's strategy is to address on-premise to cloud connectivity and providing "Integration as a Service" in the Cloud. I encourage you to check out the PDC videos and blog posts below which cover the updates I mentioned above in greater detail.
